Our Story & Mission

About Belfountain Estates

Belfountain Estates, one hour north of Toronto, is an exquisitely appointed farm and vineyard amid acres of forest, in the rolling hills of Caledon. Come relax, enjoy our curated landscapes, experience the taste of “table in the farm” freshness, delight at the antics of estate animals and take home a taste of Belfountain Estates with  our quality artisanal products.

Nestled in the Niagara Escarpment in the Greenbelt on the banks of the Forks of the Credit, our lavender field, vineyards, orchards and kitchen gardens flourish, supported by farm animals and honeybees all surrounded by acres of oaks, maples, pines and cedars.

Belfountain Estates is a diverse carbon & regenerative farm. We take our commitment and responsibility to the future of the planet seriously. Less than a third of our more than 100 acres is under cultivation, and the crops we  grow  sequester more carbon than they produce. This is a quiet space filled with nature’s intrigue. Explore, relax and inhale our country paradise.

Learn About The Estate

Our Farm

Meet the animals, agriculture, and viticulture of our estate to see how intentional labor produces a world-class harvest.

Cows

Libby & the Bel-vines

Meet Libby, Belfountain Estate’s bovine herd queen. Libby is a 4 year old rescue Jersey Heifer who was one of the first animals to call Belfountain Estates home. Until age two, Libby lived with the chickens and lambs only to be united with a highland black angus herd and her new friends Clover, Nora and Angus.

Pigs

Cheese & Cake

These rambunctious fellows love to squeak and squeal in typical piggy fashion. Always eager to have a belly rub and food, Cheese and Cake are our farm’s forest and pen custodial engineers: You won’t find a scrap of food in the wake of these two clean up machines. Kune Kune pigs are smart, comical to watch, friendly and make great companions.

Turkey

Tina the Turkey

Like her name sake Tina Turner, Belfountain Estates Tina has flair and stage presence. Tina loves a gentle pet from time to time and spends most of her time with the hens strutting her stuff. When the flock of new turkeys comes to the Estate in mid summer, Tina shows the new crew the ropes and establishes the pecking order.

Rooster

Rory the Rooster

Roaring Rory the Rooster makes bagpipes sound like they’re whispering. This full grown boy perches high on the coop fence or roof and “lets her rip” for all to hear. One of 6 Estate roosters, Rory is the fearless leader of our Hen Protection Services and will, on occasion, allow you to pick him up and perch him on your arm.

Indian Runner Ducks

Runner Duck Flock

Indian Estate Runner Ducks are  comical to watch and play an essential role in our IPM program as ducks eat unwanted tender and tasty bugs in the vineyards and orchards while also helping with controlling weed growth. Indian Runner Ducks are the species  of duck our friend Daffy was modelled after. Always busy, fumbling and standing tall and bringing laughter to all who watch.

Hens, Geese, Ducks & Guinea Fowl

Da' Flock

Our estate flock—comprising hens, geese, and heritage fowl—spends each day foraging across open pastures in search of a natural diet. This traditional, free-roaming lifestyle is essential to the quality of their life. Each evening, they return to the safety of the roost, leaving us with exceptional, nutrient rich eggs that we are proud to feature in our Farm Shop.

Farm Dogs

Huff, Pinot, & Ayzhino

What’s a farm without a dog or 3? Our canine crew made up of 2 Bernedoodles, and a great Pyrenees are the farm’s watch dogs, the welcoming committee and huge attention magnets. Full of energy and bombast, “the boys”, as they are called, are seen everywhere and will surely welcome you with a bark and a wiggle.

Sheep

Cotton, Candy & Bartholomew

Cotton and Candy, 2 of our Dorper Sheep, were the first animals at the Estate Farm. As little looping lambs these ungulates ate weeds and grass to their hearts content in the hazelnut orchard. In subsequent years we added another female and Bartholomew, who was named by a farm hand, and seemed to be an appropriate name for a male who was curious and liked to be petted.

Goats

Pygmy Goats

The Estate’s group of 7…plus 2. The main group joined our herd in April of 2026 including 2 moms and their rambunctious kids. We also adopted 2 adult male goats to round out the herd. These silly creatures can be found jumping around, climbing, and eating just about anything.

Lavender

Our Estate lavender field has over 19,000 plants with 5 different varieties. Lavender has wonderful calming properties making it amazing in spa products, culinary endeavors, and as cut flowers. Our dried lavender bouquets stay fragrant for years of enjoyment. Enjoy our lavender fields by coming to Lavender X this summer, mid June to Labour Day.

Hazelnut Truffle Orchard

Our Estate Hazelnut orchard was planted in 2021 and forms one of Ontario’s Rare Orchards. Our Hazelnut Truffle orchard is comprised of 500 trees all inoculated with purple truffle. We have 6 different varieties to ensure great pollination. Our hazelnut trees are just reaching maturity and will start to produce nuts, and hopefully, truffles! Stay tuned for our first harvest updates.

Fruit Tree Orchard

Nestled between the vineyards and our terraced berry rows resides our quaint apple, pear, cherry and plum orchard. We have Macintosh, Amrobisa, Frost Bite, Bosch pears, sweet cherry trees and Italian style prune plums. This amazing space produces  quality fruit that tastes as sweet as sweet  can be. We use our tree fruits for events, beverages, sell them in the farm gate shop, in preserves, and hopefully one day to make fruit wine and liqueurs.

Vegetables and Berries

Each year, we grow a variety of herbs, vegetables, and berries. Some crops of note include artichokes, raspberries, red currants, strawberries, zucchini, eggplant, basil and our bodacious blackberrys. We use these bountiful harvests for table in the farm events, for sale at the Farm Gate Shop, and for making pickles and preserves. A majority of these items are turned into juice and beverages at a Toronto Juice atelier.

Our Viticulture

The heart of our viticulture program is captured in the rolling vineyards of Belfountain Estates. Spanning five acres that represent our 2 varietals, our vineyard focuses on the noble Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Since their planting in 2020, the vines have matured beautifully in our intense Caledon sun and sandy loam soils, which provide an ideal balance of nutrients and drainage.

Our vintage stands as a testament to this unique terroir, yielding grapes of exceptional health and ripeness. Under the careful guidance of our winemaker Tim Reilly and dedicated vineyard team. We combine precise, conventional techniques with sustainable practices. This commitment to innovation and stewardship ensures that every Belfountain Estates wine, and every future bottle, reflects the refined spirit of the estate.

Pinot Noir

Steeped in history dating back to the Roman era, Pinot Noir is a variety of both great challenge and immense reward. At Belfountain Estates this noble cool-climate grape thrives on our elevated, sun-drenched northern slope, where natural airflow, concentrated heat, and sandy gravel terroir echo the conditions of its ancestral home.

Due to the delicate, tight-clustered nature of these vines, our team maintains vigilant care, meticulously monitoring vine health to ensure optimal fruit quality. This dedication is expressed in the glass, revealing an elegant profile of tart cherry and currant, layered with subtle notes of forest floor and spice.

We are delighted to announce that our inaugural Belfountain First Harvest Pinot Noir (2023 vintage) is nearing its debut and will be available for tasting and purchase this summer. Following closely is our 2025 Pinot Noir vintage, anticipated for release in early spring 2027.

Chardonnay

With origins in the prestigious Burgundy region of France, Chardonnay finds an ideal expression within our estate’s temperate climate and sun-drenched, well-drained soils. Renowned for its versatility, this varietal presents a beautifully crisp profile, defined by vibrant acidity and delicate notes of citrus and orchard pear.

Chardonnay is a demanding grape that requires consistent, attentive care throughout the growing season. The result of this dedication is a wine of remarkable integrity, balance, and elegance.

We invite you to experience our inaugural Belfountain Estate First Harvest Chardonnay (2023 vintage), debuting for tasting and purchase this summer—a refined introduction to our highly anticipated 2025 vintage, arriving in spring of 2027.
